The apartments built where the clay works used to stand carry shared drainage lines rather than one run per dwelling, and a single blocked section can affect several units before anyone notices where it started.

New pipe under a newer building doesn't mean immune. Construction debris left in a line during the build is a common first-year cause of blockages we still see reported.
